What a hot day we were having on Wednesday. The heat index was at 112. I realize that some people have actual temps like that, but that is really not the norm in the heartland. I dreaded the evening hours, knowing that a storm was approaching. And boy did it hit full force. I grabbed my stitching and my Blackberry and headed to the lowest part of the house. It was about 6:45 or so, but it looked like it was 9:30 at night. Apparently winds were clocked at near 70 mph. I don't like lightening, not anymore! A couple of weeks ago we ended up with a fried computer, fried external hard drive, fried television, an electrician's bill, had to call the a/c people out, and had no phones or internet for 2 days. It sounded like a bomb went off outside our window, and that made a smoke detector go off. Glad my (former) fireman husband knew what to do: yanked those batteries right out of there while I was hiding under the covers with a pillow over my head. What's a girl to do who depends on her ears for her job? The strangest thing: After that storm, the sun came out and was absolutely beautiful at almost 9 at night. Sorry to be so long-winded. I went out on the deck Wednesday, just shortly before the storm had actually passed and snapped a couple of pics.
Then a walkabout the garden this morning netted me some beautiful shots, along with several mosquito bites.
The lilies below are actually red. I don't know why they show up pink. I need Paulette's help. All of the colors are true but that red.
My very favorite vegetable to grow is the little pickling cucumbers. These will be ready to eat in just another week.
I am addicted to Roma tomatoes and we consume lots of them. There are lots and lots on these bushes. I just hope they start to ripen soon.
After all the storms, look what I spotted at our neighbor's house. I just do not understand how this nest stayed put when our house was rattling.

Oh gosh! I'm glad you survived the storm ok -- not good about all the electronics though. Ouch! I always hate big storms, having grown up in tornado country. They so freak me out. That unearthly yellow-greenish, ugly dark sky. Makes me shudder! Love all your flowers and veggies though. Glad you show them off -- only way I get to see any. lol!
Oh, forgot to say, we have a nest with baby birds built on our house too! Boy are they noisy in the mornings. lol!

Wow! Glad you all are alright! What amazing pictures of the sky and stitching! A month ago, our beloved VW passat wagon got a direct hit in the driveway and had to be put down!
I planted tiny Fin de Meaux cucumbers for the first time this year. Do you have any great pickle recipes?
Beautiful, especially the stormy sky! I have to ask if you had those electronics hooked up to surge protectors--or were they overwhelmed by having the lightning be so close?
At any rate, I'm sorry to hear about that troublesome loss of equipment.

That storm looks fierce! I can see why you did everything you can to get safe. It's funny how once it blows over everything looks so bright and fresh. I'm glad you all are ok!

Great pictures! That storm was crazy, but we had a DOUBLE rainbow at our house! :) And what you don't know about that bird's nest is that it used to be a mini mansion.. after the storm, it was a pile of twigs. ;)

The storm sounds scary! My house was struck by lightening once and I had similar issues, except that was back before home computers! Your photos are great and your garden/flowers look beautiful.
